Prevention should be the focus of the new surgeon general, increasing awareness of the benefits that a healthy diet can have in reducing the occurrence of sickness and disease, or at least delaying their onset. A diet that contains phytonutrients from whole food fruits and vegetables is the foundation of prevention and should be the focus of that effort. Juice Plus+ contains nutrients and vitamins from whole food fruits and vegetables and is a suggested addition to a diet that lacks those foods. Here's more about our new Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin --
Now that Benjamin, acclaimed founder of a Bayou La Batre health clinic, actually has the job, it should come as no surprise that prevention and public health are at the top of her to-do list.
"I look at it as taking on the nation as my patients," she said Thursday evening, shortly after winning unanimous confirmation from the U.S. Senate.
Officially described as the nation's "chief health educator," the surgeon general has little formal power, but can wield a powerful megaphone.
In 1964, Dr. Luther Terry, another Alabama native, rocked the country with a report detailing the risks of smoking. In the 1980s, Dr. C. Everett Koop became a galvanizing figure in the campaign against AIDS. (source)
Comments: Hopefully Dr. Benjamin will use her "megaphone" to spread the message of healthy actions, and then leave a legacy of returning Americans back to a healthy diet, improved fitness, and overall better health. The only way we will solve the health care problems is to start caring for our own health more than we do currently. The best first step toward that end is to make water the beverage of choice, with the second step adding more fruits and vegetables. Over a period of just a few weeks, these two changes will make a big difference in how you feel, and likely your weight!
